Abstract
Value-based health care (VBHC) promotes a model that focuses on the involvement of workers, occupational health professionals and service providers, with the aim of achieving the best possible health outcomes at the lowest possible cost. This approach is key to ensuring the sustainability of the healthcare system and occupational health services, as well as to improving care processes and decision-making. Occupational health nursing provides training, care capacity, technical resources, professional autonomy, a preventative approach and the ability to respond to interventions within its field of work, taking a holistic and evidence-based perspective. The value added through the use of indicators, the definition of strategies, the measurement of outcomes and the evaluation of processes present an opportunity to transform that is cost-effective.
